Something To Be Thankful For

Image
If you’re like me, you felt as if the fate of America rested on a razor’s edge the night of November 8, 2016 . It felt as if true Americanism was fading. That the country we love was slipping from our grasp. And whether we would lose it or keep it, rested on the results of Election Night 2016. Obviously, one election never truly has the impact that we assign to it in our minds. Our 24 hour news cycle has a way of dramatizing everything. However, this doesn’t change the fact that it felt that way. It felt like the cop hating members of Black Lives Matter , the radical LGBT lobby, the “safe space” college crowd, and those who hate what America stands for were winning. Americans who just love freedom felt marginalized, tossed aside. Those feelings were real, and we knew we would find out if the feelings were reality on November 9th. And now, here we sit around our Thanksgiving tables. Conservatives and Republicans (yes there is a difference ) having won a stunning number of vict

Don't Feed the RINOs

It’s time we got something straight. Wearing the label of Republican does not make you a conservative. Just like wearing Colin Kaepernick jersey doesn’t make you a pathetic excuse for a football player. Trump, and many of his prospective cabinet/staff appointments (Christie, Gingrich, Giuliani, Bannon, etc.), are by no means “conservative”. One could even argue it would be a stretch to say they are on the “right” end of the political spectrum. For our purposes here, a conservative is one who holds to 5 foundational principles . Namely (1) truth, (2) equal God-given rights, (3) government’s only job is to protect those rights, (4) the people hold the power over the government, and (5) the ability to alter government to fulfill its real purpose. Conservative In Name Only As Trump and his sidekicks demonstrate, it is possible to be a proponent of certain conservative policies without being a conservative. And this is why we see someone considered by many to be a conserva

After Election 2016: Looking Through Tears, We See the World Anew

We have a guest columnist this week at Paineful Truth. While Ms. Lambert and I disagree on many issues, I believe her introspection is much needed at this point in time. And while our beliefs may differ in certain areas, I find there is much upon which we can agree. ~JP “A government big enough to give you everything you want, is big enough to take everything you have.” This was said by a man that I have some serious disagreements with. However, the election of Donald Trump to president of the United States has made me realize that it is true. And it has made me reevaluate a lot of what I believe. Bernie Sanders started a movement. He was genuine, real. He was defeated by Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton was everything we hate in a politician. But we hoped she would be better than the misogynistic egomaniac that the Republicans chose. Now Clinton has lost and we are left here. I share in the sadness, the tears, of many around the world. Not as much at Clinton’s los

I Have a Confession to Make...

In 4 days, it will all be over. And yet, it will be just beginning. Whatever decision the American people make on Tuesday, November 8 will influence the course of our nation for some time to come. And as it all comes down, as things get real, I have a confession I must make. The Painful Truth Since the primary ended, and all hope of a constitutional conservative winning the White House was gone, I have been hoping, praying, desperately wanting one thing. I was ashamed of it, but now is the time for openness and honesty. Now is the time for the painful truth. Since the primary ended, I have been wanting to vote for Donald Trump . There, I said it. Now, you may be asking, why don’t you just vote for him then? Well the answer to that question may surprise you. Because if I’m honest, it’s not that Donald Trump is an unprincipled, deceptive liberal at heart who says whatever happens to be politically expedient at the moment. It’s not that he’s an immoral, serial philanderer/
